Is the Velit 4kw heater too large for my camper? Does Velit make a smaller 2kw version?
The Velit 4kw version is larger than 2kw heaters but can provide an abundance of heat and work in smaller spaces.
When it comes to gas and diesel heaters they typically come in 2 sizes 2kw and 4kw. Velit only makes a 4kw version of the heater, and does not produce a smaller version.
This means we get a lot of people asking if the Velit 14000BTU heater is too large for their rig. Typically we say that if the heater is putting out too much heat for a smaller space, that you should ventilate the space and allow fresh air inside. Air heaters pump warm air into the space, and work differently than Air COnditioners where the air is recirculated and reconditioned where you want the space sealed off.
When running a larger heater in a smaller space, allowing ventillation by cracking windows usually bring fresh air into the space and is welcomed with the abundance of heat from the larger heater.
The risk is short cycling the heater, if it only ever turns on and quickly reaches temp, the heater never has a chance to really burn hot, and "stretch it's legs" so to speak. So opening up some ventillation by cracking doors, running a roof vent fan, or cracking windows helps allow the heater to run for longer intervals in smaller spaces.
The benefit is that even on the coldest of days and nights you will have an abundance of heater, rather than a heater that is always working to keep up.
As for actual data to support this, the answer is it depends, there is wide variety in the the applications and use of these heaters. Every rig has different insulation, thermal properties and areas of use.
