Can I extend my Velit gas or diesel air heater thermostat controller wires?

My Velit Air Heater thermostat controller wires will not reach where I need, how can I extend them properly?

Most van builders, upfitters, and others simply cut and extend the wires using 18awg wire on the 3 wires to the thermostat controller from the heater.

This is typically done without issue but there are a few considerations:

  1. Makes sure you make solid wire connections when making your own extension.
  2. For the 3 small thermostat wires, we typically do not see issues with volt/amperage loss over distance, and in most extensions 18awg is sufficient. 
  3. Consider using lever connectors for serviceability.

If the thermostat controller is acting up or going dark, check connections on extension, as well as the back of the thermostat controller. Also ensure power wires from the heater to the battery are getting sufficient amperage during startup.
